Prices of bread have been increased 20 percent by the Flour Users Association (FUA) in Ashanti Region.
The “prices are expected to take effect probably next week” the FUA has indicated in a press conference today in Kumasi.
Customers are supposed to buy all brands of bread ranging from 3 GHS up to 15 GHS starting from next week.The FUA has explained that the prices have been increased as a result of some unbearable challenges endangering them and therefore all customers should accept the rise in good faith.
The association has said again that, price of flour used for bread production has gone up by 70 percent over the last five months.
“Initially a bag of flourwas sold for 110 GHS but now it is selling at 165 GHS”.
The present price of sugar 185 GHS and margarine at 180 GHS”.Other ingredients needed for the production of bread have also been increased.
Prices of firewood and gas have abruptly been increased as well.
As a result of the adverse increment of the aforementioned products, the FUA has thereby hiked prices of bread between 10 and 20 percent which would be taken effect by next week.
